David founded Five Points Capital in 1997, securing its initial SBIC license and capital commitments for its initial fund. Prior to founding Five Points Capital, David was an investment banker in the Atlanta office of Stephens, Inc., where he provided merger and acquisition advisory services to both public and private companies. At Stephens, Inc., David was also involved in direct equity investments of the firm’s capital for growth and buyouts. Before joining Stephens, Inc. in 1994, David was with Ernst & Young’s Corporate Finance group in the Atlanta office where he provided merger and acquisition advisory services to companies in a variety of industries including healthcare, manufacturing, and automotive distribution. Prior to attending graduate business school David led the redevelopment of a hydroelectric generating facility.
Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his wife and their three grown children, traveling, and playing golf. He also enjoys all college sports, especially UNC athletics, and F1 racing. He is an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church and serves on the Investment Committee.
David received his MBA from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler School of Business in 1990 with concentrations in finance and accounting, and a BA in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979.
