Tom has been investing in the debt and equity securities of growth oriented, middle market companies for over 30 years. Prior to joining Five Points Capital in 2005, Tom was a Managing Director of Allied Capital Corporation, a publicly traded $4.5 billion business development company. During his 14-year tenure in Allied’s Washington DC office, Tom directly invested over $500 million in capital in a variety of credit, mezzanine, and buyout transactions. Tom has served on numerous portfolio company Boards and enjoys working collaboratively with management teams to support their long-term strategic initiatives for value creation. Prior to joining Allied Capital, Tom was an Associate with the North Carolina Enterprise Fund. Tom began his career in finance and leveraged lending with NationsBank (now Bank of America).
Outside of work, Tom enjoys spending time with Anne, his wife of 30 years, and their two sons. Tom is a passionate fly fisherman and enjoys both saltwater and freshwater fly fishing. When not fishing, Tom can often be found kayaking the salt marsh and tidal creeks along North Carolina’s beautiful Atlantic coast with his wife Anne. Tom enjoys ACC basketball and is an avid skier. Tom is a loyal supporter of Young Life and is an active member of Centenary United Methodist church where he severs on the Finance Committee.
Tom received an MBA from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler School of Business with a concentration in finance, and a BA in Economics from Wofford College, where he was Cum Laude graduate.
